Spire men's soccer put on a dominate performance in their mid-week showdown against the Avila Eagles, sealing a stand out 6-0 victory on Wednesday, October 22th, at Berkel Memorial. Led by huge plays and seamless execution, the Spires' triumph was marked by teamwork.
The match opened with an aggressive stance from the Spires, quickly gaining the upper hand. Graduate student
Robin Van Voorst, assisted by
Daniel Castro, found the net early and often, setting the pace for the game. The momentum continued as familiar name
Robin Van Voorst again scored the second goal before halftime, assisted by
Isha Hughan, securing a 2-0 lead at the break.
Entering the second half with confidence, the Spires maintained their dominance.
Daniel Castro again widened the gap with a second-half goal, marking his dual contribution as both a scorer and an assistant in this game. The assault didn't stop there;
Aaron Jackson and
Mario Santoro contributed to the scoreboard with goals assisted by
Gabe Porras and
Jacob Mena, respectively. To solidify their defensive front,
Angel Jacinto, the goalkeeper, ensured a shutout with a critical save, underscoring the team's all-around strength.
Isha Hughan's, Van Voorst, and Castro noted exceptional leadership performances, rounding out their Spire teammates victorious evening. With this win, the Spires improve their season record to 6-7-2 and 4-5-1 in KCAC play, moving the Spires up in the conference rankings currently sitting at seventh.
Looking forward, the Spires are set to face the Sterling College Warriors on Saturday, October 25
th at 3:30 p.m. at Berkel Memorial Stadium for Men's Senior Day Recognition.
