Shockley Has 12 Kills in 3-0 Sweep Against Bethany

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Volleyball team took on Bethany College Tuesday, resulting in a three-set win (25-11, 25-19, 25-15). The Spires are now 13-10 and 3-2 in conference play heading into a matchup with Stephens College Wednesday night.

The Spires started the first set with three consecutive kills by Devyn Ford, giving Saint Mary the early lead. Strong offensive pressure by the Spires kept the Swedes on their heels as two aces from Ava Bojanski gave the Spires all the momentum they would need to hold onto the comfortable lead. Michelle Dvorak and Keagan Shockley also contributed key kills in the 25-11 win.

Saint Mary went back and forth with the Swedes from start to finish in the second set. Rylee Kenitzer, Madison Folsom, and Ainsley Gardner would all contribute kills to the Spire's early lead. As Bethany came back, Saint Mary regrouped and pulled away at the midway point in the set thanks to an Emma Prothe ace. One last effort by the Swedes was stopped by the Spires as Gardner and Shockley closed the door with kills to give Saint Mary the 25-19 win in set two.

The Swedes came out for the third set with aggressive offensive play as they capitalized on early opportunities. Saint Mary regrouped again after a Laney Ward service ace, along with kills by Dvorak, Shockley, and Ford helped the Spires win 25-15 in set three, completing the sweep. Shockley led the team in kills with 12, and Haydan Heuermann had 16 assists on the evening.
