Spires Ease Past Bethel, 3-0

NEWTON, Kan. – Another road trip was in the books for the University of Saint Mary volleyball team as they cruised to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) win over Bethel University Wednesday night to extend their winning streak to six matches.

Saint Mary reached 15 wins on the season and now stands at 15-7 overall and 1-0 in KCAC play.

Saint Mary opened up the first set scoring the first five points, capped off by a kill from Ashley Van Gieson. The team would extend their lead to nine points at 19-10 before closing out the set, 25-15.

Bethel would grab the early lead from the Spires in the second set, but Saint Mary climbed to within one point before tying up the score at eight after an attacking error from the Threshers. Saint Mary would work their way to a two point lead at 22-20 befor taking the set 25-20.

The Spires sat in the driver's seat through the third set, leading 21-15.The Threshers would cut the lead to two later at 24-22, Spires. However a kill from Cali Odom sealed the deal for a 25-22 set win.

Odom led the team with 11 kills and Haydan Heuermann recorded 25 assists. Keishla Reyes led the defensive side with 13 digs.

Saint Mary returns to Ryan Sports Center on Tuesday with another KCAC match against Sterling College, at 7 p.m.
