LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – It was another field day for the University of Saint Mary volleyball team as they posted their fourth straight sweep, this one a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-18) over Stephens College. The Spires have won 12 straight sets and 15 of their last 16.
The Spires improved their record to 13-7 overall on the season.
Saint Mary and Stephens fought to a 13-13 tie in the first set before the Spires gained momentum – scoring eight straight points with three service aces coming from Cody Offerle. Stephens was unable to climb back as the Spires took the set 25-14.
With a 14-10 lead in set two, Delaney Deckard and Devyn Colvin both earned kills to ignite a 5-1 run for the Spires to 19-11. Saint Mary later extended the lead to 23-17 before Emma Prothe slammed two kills to end the set.
Saint Mary jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the final set, but the Stars scored four straight points to trim the deficit to three. Saint Mary was able to fend off the Stars in the end as Lexi Schamberger closed the game out with a kill at 25-18.
Saint Mary will travel to Haskell Indian Nations on Tuesday in Lawrence, Kan. for a 7 p.m. match.
