Spires Slam Kansas Christian in Three Straight Sets

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary volleyball team breezed past Kansas Christian College Thursday night, behind 27 total service aces inside Ryan Sports Center. The Spires did not allow more than eight points in a single set, sweeping the Falcons 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-7).

The Spires are now 7-7 on the season.

GAME FLOW
Saint Mary was on a roll all night, starting with three of the first four points coming off service aces from Brooke Fender. The Spires built a 16-3 lead in the first set before closing out the frame 25-8.

The Spires opened the second set at 5-1 and scored 11 straight points. Five of those points also came via the service line as Adeline Pagan-Sanchez had five service aces during the run. The Falcons would add a couple points down the stretch, but the Spires took the second set – 25-8.

KCC hung around in the third set for a bit, trailing 11-7. However, Saint Mary continued its offensive rhythm and scored 14 straight points. Cali Odom, Devyn Colvin and Jaylie Thornton scored three of the final four points on kills.

KEY STATISTICS

  • Pagan-Sanchez had 10 of the team's 27 service aces.
  • Lexi Schamberger, Odom and Colvin led the Spires with five kills apiece.
  • Saint Mary had 30 total assists, led by 11 from Bailey Wright and nine from Ashley Van Gieson.
  • Thornton had a team high four digs for Saint Mary.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SPIRES
Saint Mary will begin KCAC play on Sept. 19 when they host Bethel College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Ryan Sports Center.
