LAMONI, Iowa. – The University of Saint Mary volleyball team split their two matches at the Graceland University Triangular Tuesday night on the site of Graceland University. The Spires defeated Haskell University, 3-1 and fell to Graceland 3-0.
The Spires are now 6-7 on the season.
GAME FLOW (Haskell)
The Spires got off to a hot start winning the first two sets. Saint Mary had to claw past the Indians in the first frame, winning 25-22. They then blew past Haskell in the second set winning 25-14.
The Spires came up short in the third set falling 25-14, but ended the match in the fourth set. Saint Mary ended the fourth set on a 10-3 run to win 25-13.
Cali Barger led the Spires with 12 kills and Cody Offerle added 10. Angela Wade totaled a season high 24 digs.
GAME FLOW (Graceland)
Graceland took the first set 25-18, despite Saint Mary trailing by just two points at 17-15 midway through the set. The Spires kept pace with Graceland in the second and third sets. The second set saw nine ties with the Spires leading the set 21-20 at one point. Both teams played to a 22-22 tie before Graceland scored three of the final four points to go up 2-0.
Just like the second set, the third frame had its excitement. Trailing 18-12, Saint Mary scored four straight points that included a kill apiece for Barger and Offerle. Saint Mary would later find themselves down 24-19 before Graceland scored the final point of the set to take the match.
Barger, Wade and Offerle each added six kills in the second match.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SPIRES
The Spires have a quick turnaround as they will return to Ryan Sports Center on Thursday to host Kansas Christian College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
