The Saint Mary women's basketball team resumed KCAC play on Wednesday night in the Ryan Sports Center when they hosted Bethany. The Spires would fall to the Swedes 64-60 making their overall record 7-8. Saint Mary is now 4-5 in KCAC play.
It was a back and forth affair with Saint Mary pulling out to an eight point lead in the first quarter. Bethany rallied in the second quarter to erase the deficit and lead by eight, but the Spires pulled back within one by halftime.
In the second half, Saint Mary again got off to a hot start and pulled out to another eight point lead before settling for a three point advantage headed into the fourth quarter. Bethany responded once again to have the game tied just two and a half minutes into the final frame. After Bethany took the lead with seven minutes left to play, the Swedes would maintain the rest of the way and claim the four point victory.
Candy De Los Reyes led the Spires with 20 points. She also had six steals and five rebounds to lead Saint Mary in both categories. Tiani White added 15 points. The Spires were held to just 38% shooting from the field and 25% from three point range.
Saint Mary will be back in KCAC action on Saturday in a road matchup at York. The game is slated for a 2pm start. York is 4-11 on the season and 1-8 in KCAC play.
