The Saint Mary volleyball team traveled to Hillsboro, KS for a KCAC matchup at Tabor on Monday night. The Spires fell in four sets to drop their record to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in KCAC play.
The Spires fell into a hole early in the first set and could not climb back out of it as they fell 25-16. Saint Mary was deadlocked at 22-22 with Tabor in the second set but outscored the Blue Jays 4-2 the rest of the way to claim a 26-24 set victory. Tabor found their stride in the final two sets and took the Spires by scores of 25-15 and 25-13.
Savannah Fillion and Maleka Benjamin both broke double digits in kills. Fillion led the team with 14 and Benjamin had 12. Whitney Rock offered up 29 assists to pace the offense as well. On the defensive side, Rock also had a team high in digs with 18. Katy Koepke and Adeline Pagan-Sanchez each had 11 digs. Saint Mary combined for a team total of four block assists.
Saint Mary resumes play on Wednesday when they host Friends at 7pm.
