Saint Mary Volleyball Tops Friends

The Saint Mary volleyball team evened their KCAC record at 3-3 with a straight set victory over Friends on Wednesday night. The Spires are now 6-7 on the season. It was the first straight set victory for Saint Mary in 2017.

The Spires set the tone early in the first set running out to a 13-3 lead to open the match. Saint Mary closed out the first set 25-7. After the teams were tied 11-11 in the second set, the Spires outscored the Falcons 14-9 the rest of the way for a 25-20 win. Saint Mary closed the match with a 25-15 win in the third set.

Kaitlynn Lanier led the attack as she tallied 11 kills in the win. Savannah Fillion added nine kills of her own. Whitney Rock continued to contribute from the setter position with 29 assists. On the defensive side, the Spires combined for six block assists. Bianca Asheim and Lanier each had two. Lanier also had two solo blocks. Katy Koepke fought for 18 digs to lead the team in that category.

Saint Mary volleyball will be back in action on Saturday in Bartlesville, OK against Oklahoma Wesleyan. The match is scheduled to begin at 2pm. Oklahoma Wesleyan is 4-1 in KCAC play and 8-5 overall this season.
