The Saint Mary volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday hosting Kansas Wesleyan and Haskell in a triangular. The Spires fell to Kansas Wesleyan in five sets and beat Haskell in four. The Spires are now 5-6 on the season.
The first match of the day was a KCAC matchup with Kansas Wesleyan. The Coyotes jumped out to a two set lead with 25-13 and 25-15 victories in the first two sets. The Spires bounced back with 25-20 and 25-21 wins in the next two sets but fell in the final set 15-9.
Whitney Rock had 39 assists, and Savannah Fillion had a team high 19 kills. Katy Koepke had 17 digs. Kaitlynn Lanier had two solo blocks and three block assists.
In the win over Haskell, Saint Mary took the first two sets. In the first set the Spires jumped out to a 10-3 lead and never looked back in a 25-17 win. The second set stayed close until Saint Mary broke away and took the set 25-19. Haskell took the third set, but the Spires wrapped up the match winning 25-14 in the fouth.
Lanier led the attack this time with 10 kills. Rock added 13 assists. Koepke had the team high in digs again with eight.
Saint Mary is back in action tonight when they travel to Hillsboro to take on Tabor at 7pm.
