Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Spire Basketball Grind Out Another Home Win

Leavenworth, Kan.--Spire women's basketball had another huge home opportunity on Thursday, November 6th at the Ryan Sports Center. USM women's team battled against Williams Baptist University and came out on top over the Eagles with a final score of 87-83.

The night kicked off with Williams Baptist taking an early lead, but Saint Mary quickly responded. Sophomore Addison Tower of Saint Mary hit key three-pointers early on, with senior Saige Grampsas assisting effectively, helping the Spires to a first quarter lead of 23-15. By halftime, the Spires had extended their advantage to 45-32, thanks in part to strategic plays by Keely Barnard and continued court awareness from Grampsas.

Williams Baptist attempted a comeback in the third quarter, narrowing the gap as they capitalized on free throws and easy layups. However, USM maintained their lead, closing the third period ahead at 60-57. The final quarter saw continued excellence from Addison Tower and Keely Barnard, whose three-pointers sealed the victory for Saint Mary.

Key Spires included Addison Tower, who led the scoring with 25 points, and Saige Grampsas, who dominated with 9 assists and 2 steals. Mary Olson also contributed significantly with 8 rebounds.

USM will take a quick breather and prepare to face the Park University Pirates on Wednesday, November 12th with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. in Parkville, Missouri. The Spires currently hold a season record of 2-1 with conference play just around the corner, beginning on Saturday, November 15th against the Threshers.
