Ottawa, Kan.—Spire volleyball traveled to Ottawa on Wednesday evening to face the Ottawa Braves at Wilson Field House. However, USM just couldn't get it done and ended the night with a final score of Ottawa 3, Saint Mary 0.
The night began hotly contested with the first set ending at Ottawa 25, Saint Mary 22. The comeback efforts were strong, but the Spires again narrowly lost the second set 25-21, showing resilience but unable to secure a lead. The third set followed a similar tight pattern, ending with Ottawa clinching the win at 25-23, sealing their sweep for the evening.
Key performances were notable from the Spires' side;
MJ Stephens led with a commendable tally of 11 kills while
Emma Scalise followed with 7 kills and also contributed significantly on the defensive with 2 blocks. Defensive skills were on display from
Gabby Kurle, who dug out 18 attempts, providing crucial support for the team. In terms of service,
Ava Bojanski played a vital role, scoring 3 aces. The team's coordinated effort was evident as
Addison Baker delivered 19 assists, facilitating meaningful setups throughout the three matches.
The Spires are set to face the Tabor College Bluejays on Saturday, November 8
th at 1:00 p.m., at the Tabor College Gymnasium in what will be the final match of the 2025 regular season. The team's current season record stands at 21 wins and 10 losses, with a conference record of 7-5 and postseason looming just around the corner as the 2025 KCAC Volleyball Championship Opening Rounds are slated to begin on Tuesday, November 11
th.
