YORK, Neb. - The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team got back into their rhythm this week with a commanding 81-59 road victory over York University.
After a competitive first half, where Saint Mary held a slim 39-34 lead, the Spires erupted in the second half with a dominant 42-25 performance. Their efficiency from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line played a significant role, as they shot 42.3% from three-point range (11-26) and converted 10 of 13 free throws (76.9%) with their aggressive offensive.
Kaeden Bonner led the charge offensively, delivering a game-high 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including four three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the line. Jordan Brown also had a standout performance, adding 18 points while connecting on four shots from deep. Bryce Johnson contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
The Spires' bench played a pivotal role, contributing 30 points. Jason Parson II led the reserves with six points, ten rebounds, and two assists.
Saint Mary's defense was relentless, forcing 15 turnovers and holding York to just 32.8% shooting from the field and 18.8% from three-point range. Despite being outrebounded 44-33 and giving up 18 second-chance points, the Spires capitalized on their opponent's mistakes, scoring 18 points off turnovers compared to York's five.
The Spires built their largest lead of the game—a 28-point advantage—with just over five minutes remaining in the second half, showcasing their ability to control the pace and execute on both ends of the floor.
