Winfield, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team took on Southwestern College Moundbuilders on Wednesday night, resulting in an 88-45 win. Putting the Spires at an overall record of 14-3 and a conference record of 11-0.
The Spires had a solid start to the game, ending the first half with a 21-point lead. It was a tremendous team win as they executed shots on offense to take the lead early in the game, scoring nearly half as many points as their opponent. Starters Tanea Sims and Paige Pendley helped lead their team to victory with 37 points between the two.
Saint Mary kept a steady lead throughout the entirety of the game. As the Spires and Moundbuilders went back and forth, each team was called for several fouls, with Sims making eight free throws, helping protect and expand the USM lead. Going into the fourth quarter, Saint Mary led 62-33, and the Spires managed to put up 26 more points by the end of the game. Sims recorded her seventh double-double of the year, averaging 13.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this year.
