Columbia, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Volleyball team traveled to take on the Stephens College Stars on Tuesday Night, resulting in a win. The Spires are now 16-6 overall and 4-2 in the KCAC.
To open the first set, the Spires started down 3-6 but quickly rebounded and took a 9-8 lead. After a back-and-forth set, the Spires started to gain more momentum from impressive defense play. Keagan Shockley delivered the last kill of the set to make the final 25-21.
Saint Mary and Stephens remained neck and neck as no one could build a commanding lead in the second set. Maddie Folsom had multiple kills leading up to the turning point for the Spires midway through the action. A 5-1 run made it 14-10 in favor of Saint Mary. Stephens Had a late scoring burst to take the second set 23-25.
Saint Mary came out for the third set and built a substantial lead of 7-2 with multiple kills by Riley Kenitzer. Midway through the set, the Spires were up 15-8 as their offense started to shine and was complimented by good defense plays. The Spires would take the third set 25-16 with a kill from Kenitzer.
Saint Mary again built a good lead over Stephens to begin the fourth set. The Spires had a 21-11 lead going into the home stretch of the set after multiple defensive plays. The Spires' offense continued to produce at a high level throughout the set, winning 25-12. Shockley and Kenitzer combined for 31 kills on the night, while Gabby Kurle and Ava Bojanski came up with 23 digs.
