Spires Beat McPherson For Third Straight Win

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team took on the McPherson Bulldogs, resulting in an 88-62 win. The Spires are now 13-8 overall and 9-6 in the KCAC.

Saint Mary got off to a fast start with their offensive production as Jerrica Johnson scored eight of the Spire's first 10 points as USM got out to an early 10-2 lead. Following a McPherson timeout, the Spires went on another scoring run as Paige Pendley and Alex Specht helped extend the Saint Mary lead. With under a minute to go in the quarter, Demi Aamold hit a jump shot to make the score 21-10. The Bulldogs went on a scoring run of their own to open the second quarter as they cut the Spire lead to 21-17. Saint Mary responded with three straight threes by Alanis Delgado, Johnson, and Aamold. With under two minutes in the half, Delgado again nailed a three to make the score 42-24 in favor of the Spires.

The Second half started much like the first for Saint Mary, with continued offensive production as Delgado nailed another three. McPherson tried to claw back, but stout defensive play by the Spires kept them in the lead. With under three minutes left in the quarter, Aamold hit another three-pointer to keep things rolling for Saint Mary heading into the fourth. The Spires refused to let the Bulldogs back in the game as Johnson scored seven more points to propel USM to an 88-62 win. Delgado and Johnson had 17 points, while Pendley had a team-high six rebounds.
