Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Volleyball took on Missouri Valley College Tuesday night, winning in three sets, 25-15, 25-20, and 25-22. The Spires are now 7-4 heading into this weekend's doubleheader.

Saint Mary started set one with an 8-2 scoring run and a commanding lead that they would hold the entire set. The Vikings could not keep up with the offensive production of the Spires. Keagan Shockley started another run later in the set after a kill that extended the Spire's lead to 16-5. Saint Mary cruised to a 25-15 victory in set one. The next set was much more competitive and featured three lead changes. At one point in the later stages of set two, the Spires were down 16-12. After a time-out, Saint Mary went on another 8-2 scoring run, essentially putting away the second set and giving them a 2-0 lead.

The final set was the closest of the night for Saint Mary. They took an early lead, but Missouri Valley was never too far behind, the biggest deficit being four points. the Vikings did go on a late run that could have forced overtime after a few untimely errors from Saint Mary with the score at 24-22. However, the Spires won the set and secured the sweep after a service error by the Vikings gave them the win. Shockley had a total of 12 kills on the night and Haydan Heuermann had 18 assists. On defense, Laney Ward led the Spires with 12 digs.

The Spires will host a doubleheader at the Ryan Sports Center on Saturday against Bethany College at 1 p.m. and Peru State at 5 p.m.
