Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Volleyball took on Tabor College Tuesday, resulting in a three-set win (25-16, 25-16, 25-14). The Spires are now 20-13 overall and 8-5 in conference play as they officially punched their ticket to Hutchinson, Kansas, to continue to play in the KCAC Championship Tournament.
Saint Mary and Tabor battled back and forth during much of set one as Ainsley Gardner and Emma Prothe got the Spires on the board with a kill and an ace. As the set went on, kills by Devyn Ford and Rylee Kenitzer, along with multiple Blue Jay mistakes helped the Spires pull away. Kenitzer and Michelle Dvorak later closed the set with kills as Saint Mary took set 1 25-16.
Set two started with a long scoring streak for Saint Mary which was highlighted by Dvorak and Madison Folsom's kills. Strong serving by Ava Bojanski also helped give Saint Mary the early 11-4 lead. Saint Mary did not need to do much after that as offensive scoring from Keagan Shockley, Haydan Heuremann, and Gardner let Saint Mary cruise to a set two win, with the final score being 25-16.
Much like the second set, the third set showed another impressive scoring streak for the Spires which featured three straight service aces by Prothe. With the score at 17-5, there was little the Blue Jays could do to slow down the Spires offensive production. Saint Mary comfortably finished set three with a 25-14 victory. Dvorak led the way for the Spires with ten kills on the night, while Heuremann accounted for 36 assists.
