Spires Win in Three Sets Over York

York, Neb.- The University of Saint Mary Volleyball team took on the York Panthers Wednesday, resulting in a three-set win (25-15, 25-20, 25-21). The Spires are now 18-13 and 6-5 in conference play heading into a matchup with Southwestern College Saturday.

Saint Mary and York battled back and forth to start set one as Michelle Dvorak, Devyn Ford, and Rylee Kenitzer helped keep Saint Mary in the game with kills. Service aces by Emma Prothe, along with a kill by Madison Folsom, helped the Spires pull away halfway through the set. Ford and Ainsley Gardner had kills that prevented the Panthers from climbing back as the Spires held on for a 25-15 win.

Set two featured an early service ace by Haydan Heuermann along with kills by Ford and Folsom. The Panthers kept the set close with kills of their own, but costly errors helped the Spires pull away late. The second set ended with more errors by the Panthers, giving Saint Mary the 25-20 win.

York as they got out to an early lead to begin the third and final set, but Folsom, Kenitzer, and Ford all stepped up with kills to swing the momentum in favor of Saint Mary. Laney Ward's service ace added to a point streak for the Spires that would prove to be too much for the Panthers to overcome, as Saint Mary took the final set 25-21

Ford, Gardner, and Kenitzer combined for 31 kills on the night, while Heuermann accounted for 43 assists.
