Pittsburg, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team took on Pittsburg Gorillas Wednesday night, resulting in a 95-63 loss. The Spires are now 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the KCAC.
Jerrica Johnson got things going for the Spires, making a layup and giving Saint Mary a 2-0 lead. Shortly after that, a steal by Alex Specht got the Spires the ball back, and Alanis Delgado hit a jump shot to make the score 8-4 in favor of Saint Mary. Pitt State quickly answered with an 11-2 scoring run to take the lead at 15-10. The Spires could not keep up with the Gorilla's offensive production, and shortly after the start of the second quarter Saint Mary was down 31-22 after a jump shot by Tanea Sims. Dajia Planas made a three-pointer, making the score at halftime 48-36.
Planas hit another three right out of halftime to bring the Spires within nine points of Pitt State. Johnson helped Siant Mary stay within ten of the Gorillas throughout the third quarter, but in the final minutes of the third, Pitt State went on a 12-point scoring run. The Gorillas extended their lead by 30 in the fourth quarter and won by a score of 95-63.
