Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team played against the Tabor Blue Jays Wednesday, resulting in an 83-70 loss. The Spires are now 4-3 overall, dropping their first conference game of the season.
The first half started fast for USM as Deshaud St. Martin, and Quentin Williams combined for the first nine points for the Spires to give them the early 9-3 lead. Tabor soon climbed back as a scoring streak for the Blue Jays put them ahead 17-11 midway through the half. Joe Burgos, Cam Southern, and Braylen Duncan gave the Spires life, making shots of their own, but the Blue Jays went into halftime up 40-30.
Saint Mary made key shots to stay in the game coming out of halftime, but Tabor kept up with the offensive pressure. A William's three pulled the Spires within six to make the score 46-40, but Tabor again went on a run and capitalized off of mistakes by the Spires. As USM closed the gap again with a three-pointer from St. Martin, the Blue Jays responded, going up ten with seven minutes to go. Southern and Duncan tried their best to keep the Spires in it, making mid-range jump shots, but it was not enough as Tabor closed things out, winning 83-70.
St. Martin led the Spires with nineteen points and six rebounds on the night.
