Volleyball Falters To No. 1 Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The University of Saint Mary volleyball team put forth their best effort against the nation's top-ranked team in the opening round of the 2020 NAIA National Tournament, falling in three straight sets to University of Jamestown (N.D.).

The Spires finish their season at an even 14-14 overall.

The Spires fought hard in the first set keeping pace with the Jimmies throughout. Rylee Kenitzer and Kelsey Huggans combined for three kills midway through the set to put the Spires behind 10-9. Jamestown's lead grew to five on a few different occassions, as the Spires gained points off some mistakes from the Jimmies and another kill from Kenitzer. Jamestown however, would end up taking the set by seven at 25-18.

The second set got away from Saint Mary as they fell behind 16-7. Kenitzer, Huggans and Jessica Malizzi would get kills toward the end of the set, but the Jimmies finished it off with a 25-10 win. Saint Mary battled in the third set, but the deficit was too great to overcome as the Jimmies took the final set by a score of 25-14.

Kenitzer led the team with eight kills, Haydan Heuermann had 14 assists along with 10 digs and Keishla Reyes added 11 digs.
