LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team got off to a slow start tonight and fell behind after an Avila 10-point run midway through the first half, and could not manage to mount any type of game altering comeback, in their 78-64 loss Friday night inside the Mabee Fieldhouse at Avila University.
Saint Mary is now 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the KCAC.
It was all Avila all night long as the Eagles were in complete control throughout most of the contest. However, the Spires would not roll over for Avila asChristian Carmichael's 17-points kept the Eagles on their toes.
Saint Mary was down by 23 points only four minutes into the second half, but the Spires would not quit. They played hard and were only down by 14 points when the ring of the final buzzer came.
Carmichael led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Donovan Sinegal and Diego Lucas both had 12 points.
