Spires Fall To Tough Bethel Squad

NEWTON, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team fell behind early in a tough matchup to (RV) Bethel College Saturday afternoon, on the road. The Spires would lose 105-56 to the Threshers.

The Spires are now 9-8 overall and 5-8 in the KCAC.

The Spires ran into a hot-shooting Threshers squad Saturday afternoon, as Bethel shot 55.8 percent from the field in the first half. Saint Mary would post just a 31.2 percentage. Bethel grabbed a 15-point lead five minutes into the game at 20-5, before Cameron Southern hit a basket to end a five minute scoring drought for the Spires.

Bethel would go on another scoring run and led 50-25 at halftime. Raylon Howard and Lavar McCullough came out and each scored baskets to start the second half. Bethel however, quickly pushed forward and continued their hot start to ride on to the win.

McCullough and Howard both posted double-figures with 12 and 11 points respectively. Brad Hailey led the team with seven rebounds.

The Spires return to Ryan Sports Center Monday night to play York College at 8 p.m.
