LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Never relinquishing the lead, the University of Saint Mary women's basketball team finished their season with a win over Ottawa University Saturday afternoon inside Ryan Sports Center on 'Senior Night'.
The two seniors in Tiani White and Sienna Brown led the way as both scored in double-digits, helping the Spires to a 62-55 win. The Spires finish their season with an overall record of 8-20 and 6-18 KCAC. Both seniors were also recognized after the game for their contributions to the program.
GAME FLOW
Saint Mary came out with high intensity as White and Brown scored the first seven points of the game forcing Ottawa to take a time out. The Spires led throughout the entire first half before the Braves tied the game up at 24 after a three-pointer with 3:20 left in the second quarter. The Spires would quickly answer with a 9-3 run to go into halftime with a 33-27 lead. Saint Mary continued to pressure the Braves throughout the entire game on both sides of the court and never trailed in the game.
White led the team in scoring with 13 points and had four assists, while Brown finished the game with 13 points, six rebounds and six blocks. Paige Scheckel finished the game with 11 points and four rebounds. Danielle Cassady had four assists in the game. As a team the Spires shot 42.1 percent from the field and dominated in the paint outscoring the Braves 26-6 down low.
