Spires Streak Snapped, Splits Vs Lyon, Stephens

COLUMBIA, Mo. – It was another battle tested day for the University of Saint Mary volleyball team Saturday afternoon as they saw their 16-match winning streak come to an end against Lyon College, 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 12-15). The Spires then rebounded by sweeping Stephens College 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-17).

The loss to Lyon was the first loss for the team since Sept. 14.

Saint Mary did break their program record of 25 wins – set last year, with the win against the Stars and is now 26-8 overall.

LYON MATCH: After Lyon grabbed the first set 25-20, the Spires managed to take the next two sets each by a score of 25-20. Saint Mary played another close set against the Scots, but fell in the fourth, 25-22.

In the fifth set, Lyon got off to a hot start. Saint Mary was able to trim the deficit to two points, but Lyon prevailed in the end 15-12.

Cody Offerle had a team high 11 kills and Emily Longnecker had 22 assists. Keishla Reyes led the team with 18 digs.

STEPHENS MATCH: Playing Stephens for the third time this year, the result was no different from the previous matchups. Saint Mary was able to find its way and swept the Stars in three straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-17.

Lexi Schamberger, Stephanie Reichenberger and Delaney Deckard each recorded seven kills. Haydan Heuermann had 21 assists and Khiley Davis pitched in 14 digs.

UP NEXT
The Spires return to the Ryan Sports Center on Wednesday for a big KCAC match against Bethany College. The night will also mark Senior Night for the Spires with a first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
