LINDSBORG, KAN. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team tied with Bethany College on the road, 1-1 Saturday evening in Lindsborg, Kan.
The Spires are now 4-8-3 overall and 2-6-3 KCAC.
Bethany would take the first few shots of the game, but Saint Mary came out aggressive offensively. Anna Soetaert took the Spires first shot, but was unable to get it passed the goalie. The Spires then had three back-to-back shots from Emily Wilson, Megan McMillen, and Soetaert that missed wide or was saved by the Bethany goalie. The Swedes had multiple shots near the end of the half, but the Spire defense was able to hold them scoreless. The score was 0-0 at halftime.
At the 19:18 mark of the second half, Brittany Ortiz put the Spires up 1-0. Bethany would almost immediately respond with a goal of their own. In final minute of the game, Bailey Zinser had a chance to win the game as she took a shot that would miss just wide. Despite having multiple opportunities to score, both teams held on defensively to force the tie.
As a team the Spires had 13 shots, with seven on goal. Soetaert, McMillen, and Willson each took had shots. Bailey Zinser had two shots and Grace Sanford had one shot. Lauryn Airy had seven saves in goal.

The Spires return home on Nov. 5 to take on Avila University on Senior night at Berkel Memorial Stadium to finish up the regular season. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
