Women's Soccer Drops Match To McPherson Saturday

MCPHERSON, KAN. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to McPherson College Saturday afternoon.

The Spires are now 4-8-2 on the season, 2-5-2 KCAC.

Things were quiet for the Spires early on, as the Bulldogs took the first few shots of the game. McPherson was first to get on the board after scoring at the 21:35 mark of the first half. Emily Wilson tried to respond with a goal for the Spires, but it was saved by the Bulldogs goalie.

Later in the half, Natasha Webster was able to find the back of the net after kicking it passed the goalie to tie the game up 1-1.

The second half was neck and neck until late in the game, when McPherson headed in ball to go up 2-1 with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Saint Mary fought hard, but was unable to respond offensively.

Wilson led the team with three shots, with two on goal. Webster had two shots, both on goal. Lauryn Airy had seven saves in goal for the Spires.

The Spires continue their two game road stint as they will travel to Lindsborg, Kan. next Saturday to take on Bethany College. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
