Volleyball Rolls Past Stephens College, 3-1

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – After narrowly falling in the first set, the University of Saint Mary Volleyball team rebounded with three straight set wins over Stephens College Saturday night, winning 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-14, 25-10) inside the Ryan Sports Center.

The Spires are now 22-14 overall on the season.

GAME FLOW
The Spires and Stars fought with each other in the first set, but Stephens would take a 1-0 lead after winning set one 25-23. Saint Mary then found a rhythm in the final three sets of the night. The Spires took a 18-10 lead in the second set after a kill from Delaney Deckard and trounced the Stars 25-11 in set two to even the match at one apiece.

Saint Mary once again separated themselves from the Stars in set three, grabbing a 20-10 lead and scored the next five of the final nine points. The Spires took the third set, 25-14. The fourth set proved to be no different as Saint Mary won the set 25-10, which included kills from Cody Offerle and Aly Camacho to help the Spires trounce the Stars in the end.

KEY STATISTICS

  • Camacho recorded a season high 12 kills and six total blocks.
  • Bailey Wright (20) and Ashley Van Gieson (18) combined for 38 assists.
  • Three Spires in Katy Koepke (19), Brooke Fender (11) and Van Gieson (11) had double-digit digs.
  • Saint Mary hit .267 on the day compared to .007 for Stephens.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SPIRES
The Spires take on Bethany College on Tuesday in Lindsborg, Kan. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
