LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary volleyball team took down KCAC foe Oklahoma Wesleyan tonight in the Ryan Sports Center, 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 23-25 25-17) for their fifth win in their last seven matches.
The Spires are now 20-12 overall and 7-2 in the KCAC. Saint Mary remains in fourth place in the conference.
GAME FLOW
Saint Mary jumped out to a 10-6 first set lead before Oklahoma Wesleyan chipped away and cut the deficit to three points multiple times. The Spires were then able to score seven straight points and take a 23-13 lead after kills from Cody Offerle and Devyn Colvin. Bianca Asheim then capped off the set with a kill as the Spires took the set, 25-16.
The second set was a bit closer, but the Spires grabbed a 19-13 lead after a kill from Lexi Schamberger. Oklahoma Wesleyan would make a run to keep the score close, but the Spires took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-21 win.
The Eagles took the third set with a 25-23 win, but Saint Mary would close the match out in the fourth. Cali Odom gave the Spires a 10-5 lead with a kill before the Spires continued to put the pressure on the Eagles, taking a 20-13 lead. Saint Mary would take the fourth set, 25-17.
KEY STATISTICS
- Offerle and Odom recorded double-figure kills for the Spires with 14 and 11 respectively.
- Bailey Wright and Ashley Van Gieson each had double-doubles. Wright totaled 17 assists and 10 digs, while Van Gieson had 23 assists and 15 digs.
- Katy Koepke led the Spires with 20 digs on the night.
- The Spires had 51 kills compared to 47 for the Eagles.
