Baseball Goes 1-2 at Bethany

The Saint Mary baseball team went 1-2 in their three game KCAC series at Bethany this weekend. The Spires fell 9-4 and won 7-1 on Friday and lost 4-0 on Sunday. Saint Mary is now 1-5 in KCAC play.

After the Spires jumped out to a 2-0 lead, a Saint Mary error allowed four unearned runs to cross the plate in the bottom of the inning. Mike Amado started on the mound and went four and two thirds innings allowing four earned runs and five unearned runs on nine hits. Brody Meloy pitched three and a third innings of scoreless relief. Jordan Wilkerson led the offense with three htis. Guillermo Loera and Mel Robles each had two hits.

Ryan Benson tossed a complete game and allowed just one run on six hits in the second game of the series as Saint Mary took a 7-1 victory. Andrew Berry, Wilkerson, Robles, and Loera each had two hits. Three runs for the Spires in the seventh put the game away for Saint Mary.

In the series finale, the Saint Mary offense went silent on a windy day in Lindsborg. The Spires could only muster four hits in the loss. Zack Novis tossed a complete game and allowed four runs, two earned. Novis struck out four and walked two while allowing nine hits. Berry had three of the four hits for the Spires. Juan Gallardo had the only other hit for Saint Mary.

Saint Mary will take on Missouri Valley in a non conference matchup on Wednesday before hosting McPherson for another KCAC series on Saturday and Sunday.
