The Saint Mary women's basketball team had their 14 game winning streak snapped by #20 Tabor in the KCAC Semifinals on Saturday in Hillsboro. The Spires fell 80-62. Saint Mary is now 19-12 on the season. They now await the announcements of the At-Large Bids to the NAIA National Tournament to see if their season will continue.
Saint Mary got behind early to the Blue Jays, trailing 19-10 at the end of the first quarter. Tabor pushed their lead to 20 points by halftime, and the Spires were able to get no closer than 16 down in the second half. It is the second time, Head Coach Bruce Erickson has advanced the Spires to the KCAC Semifinals.
Kelsey Switzer led Saint Mary with 19 points. Switzer also pulled down six rebounds. Candy De Los Reyes finished with 17 points. Imani White had nine points and eight rebounds. Ashley Hinkle had a team high four assists.
Tabor shot 57% from the floor while the Spires shot just 39%. The Spires shot 25% from three point range. Tabor advances the KCAC Championship game at Hartman Arena tonight at 8pm.
The incredible finish to the 2016-2017 season saw Saint Mary go from 5-11 to 18-11 behind a 14 game winning streak. The Spires finished third in the KCAC regular season. It is the best season in program history.
