Saint Mary Men Earn KCAC Road Win

The Saint Mary men's basketball team earned a 92-86 road win at Ottawa on Saturday night. The win improves the Spires to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in KCAC play.

Saint Mary used a strong first half to secure the victory. The Spires jumped out to a 16-7 lead by the 10:54 mark of the first half. Saint Mary would lead by as much as 16 in the first half before taking a 13 point lead into the locker room for halftime.

In the second half, Ottawa trimmed the deficit all the way down to two points with 14 seconds left to play, but Demetrius Cady sank two free throws to push the lead back out to four and the Spires held on for the six point victory.

Lavar McCullough led the Spires with 24 points. Teyvon Lundy and Kenneth Banks each had a team high eight rebounds. Lundy added 17 points while Banks finished with 14. Cady scored nine points and had a team high three assists.

The Spires shot 53% from the field and 40% from three. Free throw shooting from the Spires kept Ottawa in the game as Saint Mary made 20 of 30 attempts from the charity stripe for 67%. The Spires held Ottawa to just 16% shooting from three and 46% from the field in the win.

The men's basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday at 8pm when they travel for another KCAC road matchup at Sterling. Sterling is 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in KCAC play.
