The Saint Mary volleyball team fell to Friends in four sets on Friday. The Spires had bested the Falcons in three sets at home earlier in the season. The loss drops Saint Mary to 12-15 on the season and 7-10 in KCAC play.
After dropping the first set 25-22, Saint Mary bounced back to lead 24-23 late in the second set. However, Friends would not be denied as they rallied to take the set 27-25. Despite taking the third set 25-17, the second set loss would cost the Spires as they were edged once again in the fourth set 25-23 and lost the match 3-1.
Savannah Fillion paced the attack with 16 kills. She now has 245 kills on the season. Maleka Benjamin added 10 kills. Whitney Rock had 40 assists.It was the second consecutive match for Rock with 40 or more assists. Angela Wade led the defense with 24 digs. Katy Koepke added 22. Kaitlynn Lanier led the Spires in block assists with three.
The Spires will be back in action when they travel to Lawrence, KS for a non-conference match at Haskell on Tuesday at 7pm. Saint Mary bested Haskell in four sets at home earlier this season.
