USM Women Win Fifth Straight

The Saint Mary women's basketball team won their fifth straight game with a 72-56 win at Kansas Wesleyan on Monday night. The game was a rescheduled contest from Jan. 14. With the win, Saint Mary is now 11-11 overall and 10-6 in KCAC play. The Spires stand alone in fourth place of the KCAC Standings and trail third place Ottawa by two games.

The Saint Mary defense held Kansas Wesleyan to 56 points, the lowest total for an opponent this season against the Spires. Kansas Wesleyan shot just 31% from the floor. After taking a nine point lead into halftime, Saint Mary put the game away as they outscored the Coyotes 20-8 in the third quarter and eventually claimed the 16 point victory.

Kelsey Switzer led the Spires with 16 points. Ashley Hinkle finished with 14 points. Imani White scored 12 points and pulled down a team high six rebounds. Candy De Los Reyes and Gabby Hacker each had five rebounds. Saint Mary shot 50% from the field and 43% from three point range in the win.

The women's basketball team will be back in action tonight with a non-conference game against Grace. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30pm in the Ryan Sports Center.
