Saint Mary women's basketball came from behind to earn a 75-72 win over Sterling at home on Wednesday night. The win improves the Spires to 8-6 in KCAC play and 9-11 for the season. Saint Mary is now tied with Kansas Wesleyan for fourth place in the KCAC Standings.
A slow start put the Spires in a hole early on as Sterling took a 23-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. Saint Mary would gain a little ground in the second quarter, but still trailed by 11 points at halftime. With 4:07 remaining in the third quarter, Sterling would push their lead back out to 16 points, but the Spires closed the quarter on a 13-2 run to trail by just five points entering the fourth quarter.
Saint Mary continued to chip into the deficit and had the game tied at 60-60 with 4:17 left to play. Gabby Hacker then gave the Spires their first lead of the game with a rebound and a put back on the next possession. The Spires pushed their lead out to six points before Sterling trimmed the deficit back to three. The Warriors would draw no closer, however, as the Spires claimed the 75-72 win.
Imani White scored a career high 32 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Saint Mary. She was the top scorer and rebounder between both teams in the game. White also posted a career high in blocks with six. Candy De Los Reyes added 21 points and four rebounds. Kelsey Switzer finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The women's basketball team will take on Tabor in Hillsboro on Saturday at 5pm. The Spires look to redeem a 69-63 loss to the Blue Jays at home earlier this season. Tabor is currently second in the KCAC with a 13-2 record in conference play.
