Saint Mary Women's Basketball Clipped at Bethany

Saint Mary women's basketball fell to 5-6 in KCAC play with an 89-81 loss at Bethany on Thursday night. The Spires are now 6-11 on the season.

The Spires saw Bethany get out to a three point lead by the end of the first quarter and a five point lead by halftime. The Swedes added two more points to their lead by the end of the third quarter before the Spires rallied in the fourth. The comeback would fall short, however, as Bethany took the eight point victory.

Saint Mary was led by Candy De Los Reyes who scored 22 points, and pulled down a team high six rebounds. De Los Reyes also had three assists and two steals. Ashley Hinkle added 15 points for the Spires while Imani White finished with 13.

A cold shooting night hurt the Spires as they shot just 30% from the floor and 34% from three point range. Saint Mary took 18 more shots than Bethany from the field and both teams had 33 attempts from the free throw line.

Saturday's KCAC matchup with Kansas Wesleyan has been cancelled. The game will now be played on January 30 in Salina at 6pm.
