The Saint Mary volleyball team hosted Haskell in the Ryan Sports Center on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup. The five set match ended with the Spires on the losing end as Haskell took control in the fifth and final set for a 3-2 victory. The Spires, who opened the season 3-1, have now fallen to a 3-7 record overall.
Saint Mary would lead the first set 11-10 at one point before Haskell took nine of the next ten points for a 19-12 lead. Haskell would eventually take the set 25-16. The Spires bounced back to win the next two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-20 leaving them one set victory away from taking the match.
The fourth set would slip away from the Spires as they led 22-21, but Haskell reeled off four straight points to take the set 25-22. Haskell would then earn the match victory with a 15-4 win in the final set.
Savannah Fillion led the attack for the Spires as she posted 11 kills in the loss. Kaitlynn Lanier and Holly McDowell each finished with eight kills. Bianca Asheim added seven. Brittani Pascua offered up 36 assists.
Allyssa Koki finished with a team high 33 digs to lead the defense. Paige Brandt had 18 digs. Annie Beck and McDowell each had 17. Asheim finished with two blocks and two block assists on the defensive end as well.
The Spires are right back in action tonight. Saint Mary will host Southwestern for a KCAC matchup at 6pm. The Spires are 1-1 in KCAC play. Southwestern enters the match 4-6 on the season and 1-1 in KCAC play.
