The Saint Mary women's basketball team picked up a key KCAC road win at York on Saturday. The Spires bested the Panthers by a final of 83-65. Saint Mary is now 3-4 in KCAC play.
Four Spires scored in double figures as Saint Mary ran away with the game in the fourth quarter. Imani White and Candy De Los Reyes each scored 18 points to lead the Spires. White posted a double-double as as she pulled down a game high 14 rebounds as well. White also blocked three shots and forced two steals.
Ashley Hinkle scored 17 points and shot four for six from three point range. Hinkle also had a team high four assists. Gabby Hacker just missed a double-double scoring ten points and grabbing nine rebounds. Saint Mary shot 45% from the field and 44% from three point range in the win.
After the game opened with the teams trading buckets, York would trail until late into the third quarter. The Spires held a 21-19 lead at the end of the first quarter and pushed their lead to six by the end of the first half. The Panthers would rally to take a one point lead by the end of the third quarter, but Saint Mary erased the comeback outscoring York 33-14 in the fourth quarter.
The Spires resume play on Tuesday at home against McPherson. Tip off is scheduled for 6pm in the Ryan Sports Center.
