The Saint Mary volleyball team traveled to take on McPherson in a KCAC matchup on Saturday. The Spires were hunting their third consecutive victory, but came up short as they fell in three sets. Saint Mary is now 6-12 on the season and 4-5 in KCAC play.
McPherson would control the first set taking it by a final of 25-13. Saint Mary rebounded to begin the second set getting out to a 17-13 lead, but the Bulldogs would outscore the Spires 12-5 to finish the set. The final set went to extra points. Saint Mary would again have the lead late but could not seal the set eventually falling 29-27 to give McPherson the match.
Savannah Fillion and Kaitlynn Lanier led Saint Mary in kills with 12 and 11 respectively to pace the attack. Whitney Rock just missed her fourth straight match of having 30 assists or more as she posted 28 in the loss. Defensively, Saint Mary was led by Allyssa Koki who had nine digs. Gabby Hacker had a team high two block assists as well.
Saint Mary is back in action tonight at 6pm where they will host Kansas Wesleyan in the Ryan Sports Center for another KCAC matchup.
