Saint Mary volleyball took on Tabor on Wednesday night coming off back to back wins in KCAC play. The Spires were unable to come away with a third straight win as they were edged by the Blue Jays in five sets (25-23, 6-25, 25-23, 19-25, 7-15). Saint Mary is now 5-10 on the season and in KCAC play, good for seventh place in the conference.
Kaitlynn Lanier led the attack for the Spires with 11 kills. The Spires posted 37 kills in the match to Tabor's 62. Danielle Dowdy assisted 32 of the 37 kills for Saint Mary. Paige Brandt led the defense with 14 digs while Allyssa Koki had 11.
it was an up and down match for the Spires as they won the first set but struggled to mount a consistent attack in the second set. Saint Mary looked to seize control of the match by taking the third set. One set from a match victory, the Spires led the fourth set 13-12 before Tabor mounted their comeback. The Blue Jays would win the fourth and fifth sets to take the match.
Saint Mary is back in action tonight when they host Friends at 7pm in the Ryan Sports Center.
