Leavenworth, Kan.— Spire T&F were spread all across Missouri and Oklahoma this weekend, seeing athletes compete at the Wash U. Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Missouri, OBU Invite in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and the SBU Home Invite in Bolivar, Missouri.
Wash U.— In St. Louis,
Josie Tyrrell was the lone Spire athlete competing on Friday evening. Tyrrell gave it her all in the women's 10K and it would be more than enough. Not only would Josie place in the top ten out of 50 competing athletes, but her final time of 35:55 earned her a new PR and a National A Standard in the 10K event.
This nationally ranked time earns Josie yet another nod to the 45
TH Annual Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Asheville, North Carolina and moves her into No. 2 overall All-Time in USM T&F history.
SBU Bearcat Invitational—Emma Murphy would kick off scoring at the SBU Invitational in Bolivar, Missouri with a 10
th place finish in the women's discus throw with a final mark of 32.69.
On the men's side,
Robert Hennig would bring home 8
th place overall in discus with a mark of 41.78 on the weekend, while teammate
Jeremy Shreve would land himself in 10
th overall with a final mark of 41.11.
Emily Struckman earned herself a top ten finish as well, continuing on with the trend of top scoring Spire throwers. Emily earned 7
th place overall in the women's shot put with a final mark of 11.29m.
Moving on to the USM jumpers,
Maya Newcomer kicked her weekend off with a strong 5
th place finish out of thirteen athletes. Maya would finish her outing with a jump of 1.60 (5-3.00).
Nolan Norberto and
Jeremy Shreve would take up the 8
th and 10
th place standings in the men's hammer throw, respectively. Nolan would land at a final 46.38 throw while Jeremy would be close behind at 41.23m.
Juan Washington in the men's triple jump would add to the Spires strong showing in Bolivar. Juan finished in 9
th place overall with a final leap of 12.93m.
USM saw two athletes place in the women's hammer throw.
Emily Struckman proudly brought home 8
th place with a final throw of 41.31m. Teammate
Emma Murphy would be right there next to her in a 9
th place finish with a final mark of 40.54.
Mohamed Elgossy could earn a top 5 finish in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, coming in 5
th overall with an official time of 9:47.78 to start the early outdoor season.
Omarion Udell again reminded everyone that he's really good at hurdles this weekend, finishing 2
nd overall in the highly competitive event. Omarion would finish with a speedy time of 14.50, just behind the first-place winner out of Lincoln, finishing at 14.29 seconds.
Carly Holadia would battle in the women's 1500-meter race, finishing strong in the 6
th place slot with a final time of 4:46.04. Teammate
Abigail White would be right behind her coming in 8
th overall and earning a final time of 4:57.86.
USM's men's and women's 4x100, men's 4x400, and both 4x800 relay teams would turn in a solid afternoon. The USM women's 4x100 would earn 5
th overall with a final time of 47.52 with the USM men coming in 3
rd with a 42.36 finish. In the men's 4x400 the Spires would again take 3
rd overall with a time of 3:17.90, while the men's and women's 4x800 relays would come in 7
th and 3
rd overall, respectively. The men would clock a final time of 8:18.09 with the women coming in at 10:05.13.
Moving on to the women's 400-meter dash, this event would see two Spire women placing in the top ten.
Deslyne Cooper would top her group, coming in 3
rd place with a final time of 56.67 seconds and fellow Spire
Haley Sampson would come in 6
th overall out of 28 athletes with a time of 58.00 flat.
Liv Lohf would represent USM in the women's 800m race. Lohf would earn an 8
th place finish and a final time of 2:22.67.
In the men's 200m dash,
Karlos Humphreys and
Daniel Craig would be the two top 10 USM finishers. Karlos would come in 7
th overall on the weekend with a final time of 21.64 and Daniel would be just behind in 10
th overall and a 21.81 finish.
As a team, the USM men would tally 42 overall team points while the women racked up 32 team points in Bolivar.
OBU Invite—Taking a look at Friday and Saturday's multis,
Justin Johnston fought to the finish in the men's decathlon (100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m, 110mH, discus, pole vault, javelin, 1500m), earning second place overall just missing the top spot with a final overall mark of 5539.
Logan Hammersmith and
Dawson Troth would finish right behind in 3
rd in 4
th place, respectively. Hammersmith brought home a final mark of 4718 while Troth would earn himself a 4527 tally.
The Spire women would also compete in the heptathlon (100mH, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, 800m) in Oklahoma.
Makayla Lockard would battle for 5
th place overall with a 2832 final while teammate
Kylee Sipes earned herself a 6
th place finish and a 2735 final mark.
This wraps up a busy weekend for USM T&F. The Spires will get back to training and preparation this week, but take the Easter holiday weekend off. T&F will be back in action Thursday, April 9
th and Friday, April 10
th at the UCM Invite in Warrensburg, Missouri.
