LEAVENWORTH, Kan.— Bre'Ella DeMaranville made 10 saves, as the Spires (0-8-1) earned a 0-0 draw against Kansas Wesleyan (4-4-3) in conference Saturday, October. 3, in Leavenworth. DeMaranville denied Walsh at 89:56 to preserve the Spires' shutout after the visitors finished with a 22-3 advantage in shots.
The Spires defense held through sustained first-half pressure, with Kansas Wesleyan taking 12 shots and five corner kicks before halftime. DeMaranville made the first goalkeeper save at 3:06 on a shot by Moreno-Rojas, and USM added a defensive team save on Velotta's attempt at 6:31. USM totaled eight saves in the opening half, including seven by DeMaranville, to keep the match scoreless.
Yaneila Romanlopez supplied the Spires' only first-half shot at 22:34, putting the attempt on target before Waxman made the save. USM placed all three of its shots on goal during the match, but Waxman stopped each one. DeMaranville continued to protect the other end after halftime, denying Lexi Jack at 64:35 and Walsh at 65:28.
The Spires created a concentrated attacking stretch midway through the second half.
Diana Aguilar took three corners between 68:22 and 69:21, followed by
Litzy Mendoza's header on target at 69:46 that forced another Waxman save.
Allena Collins tested Waxman again at 82:32 with the Spires final shot.
DeMaranville's last-second stop completed a 90-minute shutout, with USM finishing with 11 total saves against Kansas Wesleyan's 11 shots on goal. The visitors held a 5-3 edge in corners, while each team committed four fouls. The draw left the Spires at 0-5-1 in conference play and Kansas Wesleyan at 3-1-2.
