Leavenworth, Kan.—The University of Saint Mary is proud to announce that alumna Elle Campbell has been named the new head flag football coach for the Spires, ushering in an exciting new chapter for the growing program. A familiar and respected face on campus, Campbell steps into the role with deep ties to USM and an exciting template for what's ahead for Spires Flag Football.
Campbell is no stranger to success in a Spire uniform. She played three years for the USM flag football team, serving as team captain for two of those seasons. Campbell's time as a player was highlighted by strong leadership, a competitive edge, and a reputation for bringing teammates together on and off the field. In addition to her flag football experience, Campbell has also been the graduate assistant on the USM football staff, gaining valuable insight into game planning, life outside the field, the value of relationships and character-driven success, and the day-to-day demands of a collegiate program.
In her huge new role, Campbell will continue to serve on the USM football operations staff while leading the Spires flag football team, giving her a unique dual perspective that will only help strengthen both programs that are lucky enough to have her. Coach Campbell's background in operations and the immense amount of hands-on experience she has gained will be a key asset as she navigates this new chapter and begins to build a sustainable foundation for a sport she's passionate about and continues to grow throughout our region.
Campbell expressed that she is extremely excited to get started with what will be a young Spires roster with plenty of new faces. Coach Campbell is interested in and currently focusing on the small details that go into creating a resilient, close-knit, and highly competitive culture—one where players support each other, embrace hard work, and take pride in representing the University of Saint Mary. She aims to build a team identity that not only competes at a high level but also embodies character, connection, and growth.
With flag football still relatively new in the area, Campbell is also passionate about helping the game grow well beyond campus. Vice President of Athletics,
Rob Miller warmly remarked "Elle is eager to be an ambassador for the sport, introducing more young athletes and families to USM flag football and we are excited to be growing right along with her." For the Spires community, her hiring represents more than just a coaching change—it signals a bright and ambitious future for USM flag football, fueled by one of its own.
