LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary Spires women's tennis team faced a tough challenge on Saturday, falling 6-1 to the receiving votes Bethel College at home. Despite strong efforts, the Spires were unable to overcome the determined Bethel squad.
The day started with doubles play, where the Spires struggled to gain momentum. Shannon Finn and Tracy Llamas at #1 doubles fell 1-6. Rowen Wiemers and Mia Rojas at #2 doubles also lost 4-6. Courtney Standley and Monserrat Guerrero-Chapula fought hard at #3 doubles, but ultimately fell in a close tiebreaker 6-7 (5-7).
Moving into singles, the Spires faced further challenges. Tracy Llamas battled fiercely at #1 singles, but was defeated 7-5, 4-6, 1-6. Shannon Finn also fought hard at #2 singles, but was defeated 1-6, 2-6. Mia Rojas managed to secure the lone victory for the Spires at #3 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Monserrat Guerrero-Chapula lost her match at #4 singles 3-6, 4-6. Rowen Wiemers was defeated at #5 singles 2-6, 1-6. Courtney Standley lost her match at #6 singles 3-6, 2-6.
