It comes as no surprise that #5 ranked
Destiny Jones in the 103lb-weight class accomplished what she set out to do this weekend and earned herself a 3
rd place overall finish in the highly competitive Elite division. Jones earned a tech fall win over Waldorf University and not one but three dominant pins over University of Providence wrestler Isabella Bocanegra, Menlo College's Waraich, and a jaw-dropping 16-second pin over Zapata of Texas Wesleyan. Jones's only loss came from the 1
st place finisher Isabelle Apple of Grand View (Iowa) as Destiny currently sits at a 16-3 match record this year.
Alexsys Jacquez (110), currently ranked #8 in NAIA, went 2-2 this weekend with tough matches against Bush of top ranked Grand View and Kayla Shota of Providence. Jacquez went on to finish strong with a tech fall and a quick pin over McNatt of Arizona Christian and Coleman of Iowa Western, respectively. Fellow Spire Gwendolyn Musser followed suit with 2 wins and 2 losses on Friday in the 138lb-weight class with both her wins coming from a pair of pins over Goertz of Missouri Valley and Renken of Providence. Lester of Ottawa University as well as Morgan Lucio from Valiant Prep got the better of the USM athlete, falling to OU and a tech fall to Valiant.
Sophomore
Talyn Naylor added two wins to her young career with victories over Justice Thomas of Ottawa University and Pearla Hanna of Menlo. USM athletes
Allison King and
Madison Kalamau (117) would walk away with one win a piece as Kalamau earned herself an impressive tech fall victory over Rubio of Iowa Western. Similarly,
Allison King (145) fought her way to a 10-0 win over Jade Martin of Baker University.
The Spire women have one more contest of the 2025 season when they travel to Kansas City, Missouri to make their presence known at the Eagle Open hosted by the Avila University Eagles on Sunday, December 14
