Kansas City, Mo.—USM women's wrestling competed in their last open for the 2025 half of the season at the Avila University Eagle Open, competing alongside 17 other collegiate teams yesterday, Sunday December 14
th.
Junior
Allison King had a breakout Sunday going undefeated in the 145lb-weight class. King defeated opponents from Ottawa University, Fort Hays State University, Murray State, and Upper Iowa University including a dominant pin over DII FHSU's Jade Blackhart, earning herself 1
st place overall in her weight class, earning Spire's 12 points on the afternoon.

Destiny Jones had herself another great weekend going 3-1 in the 103lb-weight class with all of her victories coming by fall including a highly impressive 39-second pin over Martinez of Colby Community College. Destiny's only loss on the day came from Ottawa University's Fink by fall. Jones is still ranked in the Top 5 in all of NAIA in the 103lb-weight class as of December 12
th with high potential of moving her way up the rankings given her outstanding start to her sophomore campaign. The next Open Mat poll is set to be released on December 19

Gwendolyn Musser earned a win over Lainey Farley of Ottawa University by pin, but unfortunately suffered a pair of losses from FHSU's Hahn and Avila University's Jaclyn Riedinger. Fellow teammates
Holly Thacher and
Talyn Naylor fell in each of their respective matches. Thacher was defeated by Slyter of Baker University as well as Gabriela Diaz of Indian Hills.
USM wrestling has earned their holiday break but will be back in action before we know it with a KCAC dual at York University in York, Nebraska on Sunday, January 4
