Ottawa, Kan.--The #17 ranked USM Women's Wrestling team competed at the Ottawa Open this weekend, hosted by the #12 OU women.
Destiny Jones (103lb-weight class) has once again dominated the weekend by earning her second Open Championships in what is still a very early, but very exciting, 2025-2026 USM wrestling season.

Madison Kalamau also had herself a weekend, placing 3rd overall in the 117lb-weight class, with an 8-0 fall over Ottawa's Salinas, fall over McKenzy Mason, tech fall, over Ottawa's Sydnee Baldwin with Kalamau's only loss of the weekend coming from the Braves Addison Saporito. Spire freshman
Faith James is getting the hang of things in her young collegiate career with a 5th place finish in the 138lb-weight class with a fall over Friends University's Isabel Reyes, with three more wins over athletes from Missouri Valley College and Avila University. Sophomore
Talyn Naylor also placed 5th overall, scoring USM another 6 points with wins over Avila by fall, Baker by tech fall, Indian Hills CC by decision and Missouri Valley College by tech fall.
Your Spire women's wrestling squad is now nationally ranked at #17 and will now take a short break this week and prepare for the Missouri Valley Invite in Marshall, Missouri on Friday, November 21st with the Missouri Valley women's wrestling program ranked just one slot above USM at #16, this is sure to be a thrilling test to the season.
