Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team hosted Southwestern College on Saturday, resulting in a 37-26 loss. The Spires are now 2-9 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
The Spires gave up an early touchdown but were able to rally on the ensuing drive to tie the game up at 6-6. After the Spires's defense forced a turnover on downs, the USM offense was not able to move the ball down the field for another touchdown. Southwestern responded with another touchdown to take a 12-6 lead over Saint Mary with little time left in the second quarter. The Spires found the endzone with no time left after an interception, which put them into excellent field position. After Cheyenne Brook's second touchdown of the day, Southwestern responded once again with a touchdown at the end of the half to take an 18-14 lead.
After the break, it took just two plays for Saint Mary to take a 20-18 lead over the Builders. An interception from T'liyah Write gave the ball back to Saint Mary and allowed them to score their final touchdown of the game to make it 26-24. Saint Mary was held scoreless in the fourth quarter while Southwestern mounted a comeback and scored two touchdowns in the last two minutes of play to win 37-26.
