Women's Tennis Wins Comfortably Over Evangel

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Tennis team hosted the Evangel Valor for a team dual on Monday, resulting in a 6-1 win. The Spires are now 7-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play. 

 

Doubles 

The pair of Tracy Llamas and Courtlyn Wolfe got Saint Mary on the board after dropping their first match. After the Llamas/ Wolfe pair won, Shannon Finn and Mia Rojas won the final doubles match 6-2 and gave the Spires the lone doubles point in the contest.  

 

Single

The Spires nearly had a clean sweep in the singles matches. Llamas and Wolfe each won comfortably, beating their opponent in two sets to give Saint Mary a 3-0 lead. Finn secured the team dual win for the SPires in her singles match. After winning set one 6-3, Finn dropped the second set by the same score, forcing a tiebreaker third set. In that set, Finn won 7-5 to give Saint Mary a decisive 4-0 lead. Rojas and Rachel Rothmeyer won their matches, 6-3/ 6-3 and 6-4/ 6-4, respectively, to give the Spires a final score of 6-1 over the Valor.

The Spires will host Bethany College at 11 a.m. on Saturday at David Brewer Park in Leavenworth, Kansas.
